For a short period in the mid
to late 1970s, Great Lakes Airlines made stops in Kitchener enroute to
Toronto from London.
Passenger loads were very poor and often the pilot would radio ahead to
see if there was anyone at all waiting in the terminal building.
Compounding the problem was
the fact it took so little time to fly from London to Kitchener, the
engine starter motors on the Convair 440 model didn't have enough time to
cool down, and were burning up when asked to restart the engines in
Kitchener.
Service did not last very
long.
